ABOUT ME

Hi & welcome to my website!

I’m Sandra and I’ve been creating art in one form or another my entire life. As a little girl I was always happy to be sketching, modelling and upcycling bits of junk. After school, I became an apprentice in the fabulous art of silkscreen printing – which is where I created the tiger image, shown on my home page – and is now part of my logo!

I took this knowledge and started my first business venture, printing posters and t-shirts.
Then I discovered the art of sugarcraft! – and the next 45 years, my life revolved around cake decorating, gradually progressing into large sculpted showstopper style cakes and sugar sculptures!
In 2006, I entered the world-renowned ‘Cake International’ competition in Birmingham – and was over the moon to win overall with the ‘Best In Show’ award for my sculpted ‘Unicorn’ cake! That piece became the face of my business, ‘Sugarfun Cake Artistry’.

My journey even took me to the screen in 2017, when my trip to the same competition with my David Attenborough sugar sculpture, was filmed for the tv programme A1: Britain’s Longest Road – a scary but fabulous experience!

Through years of creating weird and wonderful cake designs, I honed my skills in sculpture and armature building. Eventually I realised I loved the modelling process more than the baking, so I decided to swap sugar and chocolate for clay and non-edible materials!

With that shift – ‘Purple Tiger Artistry’ was born!

I haven’t left the sugar behind entirely though – as I still offer workshops, parties and tuition, to share the joy of edible art.

I’ve also expanded into murals, window art and other mediums – and have been face painting on & off for over 30 years too!

I truly love painting on any surface and I’m always experimenting with something new! – so I’m always up for a challenge and can’t wait for my next creative request!
